Noah's Law- West Virginia
Noah's Law is effective as of June 7, 2015 in the state of West Virginia. West Virginia is the 37th state in the United States to pass a law providing a certificate of birth resulting in stillbirth to families of stillborn babies. Prior to the passage of this law, parents of stillborn babies in West Virginia were only issued a fetal death certificate. Here are some important facts about the law:
* It is optional and must be requested by the parents.
* It may be issued for stillborn babies at greater than 20 weeks gestation or 350 grams in weight.
* The charge is $12, the same charge as the fetal death certificate.
* The certificate may be purchased by ordering it through the West Virginia Vital Statistics Website- follow the link below for easy access!
* It can be issued for parents who have had a stillbirth in the past, as long as the birth was documented through the fetal death certificate within the Vital Statistics system.
The law is named after Noah Richmond and is effective under WV Code 16-5-21a
*Noah's law was advocated for by Noah's parents, not by the NOAH Foundation.
